Cyprus Health Tourism Council President Ahmet Savaşan, In his Press Day message, he reminded that the press has important duties such as bringing the public together with the realities of the country and the world, forming opinions in society and ensuring social solidarity, and emphasized that the press is an important democratic power.
“THE PRESS IS ONE OF THE BASIC BUILDING BLOCKS OF DEMOCRACY”
Mr. Savaşan pointed out that the press community, which is one of the basic building blocks of democracy, is the most effective means of freedom of thought, expression and information, and that the press community fulfills a decisive task for the healthy functioning of democracy with its informative aspect.
“PASSAGE OF THE IT LAW IS PLEASING”
On the 131st anniversary of Saded, the first Turkish newspaper published by Ahmet Emin Efendi, Savaşan reminded that although there are problems arising from the failure to fully implement the Press Labor Law and there are problems in adhering to the ethical rules of journalism, the duty of the press in the country can be effective and result-oriented, and said, ’The passage of the Informatics Law, which will help increase the quality of internet journalism, is pleasing.“.
“PRESS WORKERS ARE WORKING UNDER DIFFICULT CONDITIONS DUE TO THE PANDEMIC”
Savaşan stated that he observed that today's press organs have difficulties arising from the shrinking economy due to the pandemic and that press laborers are trying to perform their profession under difficult conditions and said, “We should all help our press organs to strengthen and press laborers to contribute to the continuation of the democratic social order by working in humane living conditions.”.
At the end of his message, Savaşan said, “I congratulate the Press Day of the loyal employees of the Turkish Cypriot press with my sincerest wishes and wish them continued service to our people, being aware of the importance of their duty to enlighten the society and remaining loyal to the ethical values required by the press profession.”.
